Community Energy

Our Energy Champions trainee volunteers have almost finished their training. Once they finish, they will run regular Energy Cafes in Ilford. These offer an informal, friendly way to give energy saving advice to people struggling with fuel bills. Alongside a cup of tea and a piece of cake, people can talk about the issues they have and are offered and get information on:

  • Saving energy and money by changing their fuel tariff or supplier,

  • Taking simple actions to make their home more energy efficient

  • Financial help they may be eligible to get.

We are delighted to say that Ilford Energy Cafe

will be launched on Saturday July 16th.

It will join the Repair cafe

at Ilford Library from 2pm to 3-30 pm.

It will operate every other Saturday.

The Energy Champions who have been trained

will be there providing guidance and advice,

supported by a trained Energy Supervisor.

As well as a regular slot in the Library, the team of volunteers would love to run Energy Cafes in venues all over Ilford, for example, at Food Banks, places of worship and community centres, in fact, anywhere people gather. If you would like to invite the cafe to your venue, then contact us by email:

If you know someone whom we could  contact in a local school do get in touch with us at

Thermal Imaging Camera

Transition Town Ilford is running a loan scheme whereby we will lend you an easy-to-use thermal camera to assess where your home or community building is losing energy. Training provided if required. This will save you money and prevent energy waste.

Please note, this work can only be done in cold weather. Terms and conditions apply.

You can fill in the form to start borrowing the camera.

If you would like to find out more, please do speak with a member or the community energy group, email us at or book here.

Energy Project in Schools

Our Community Energy group is keen to contact local schools to invite them to plan a project to help them to be more energy efficient and/ or to produce their own renewable energy (e.g. through installing  solar panels).  If you know a teacher or governor of a  local school  do ask them if they would be interested  or give us their contact details.
