Magical Eco-Christmas Market ends with beautiful snow fall

Updated: Dec 7, 2023

We transformed a street into a community market place selling beautiful hand crafted goods, fabulous second hand stalls, and delicious soups, cakes and savouries. Despite the freezing weather we created community warmth – so many people came and stayed and mixed with their neighbours, we reckon 150 people visited our market.

Last year’s planned market was cancelled due to Covid, this year on Sunday 11th December we launched Ilford’s first Eco Christmas Market on Brisbane Road, in Ilford.

There were crafts (make your eco Christmas cracker), winter stories for children, energy café advice and give-aways, and a lot of money was raised for the Redbridge Food Bank. We were a drop off point and quite a few stalls donated their proceeds. We raised £611.

This was organised as a partnership with the Brisbane Road residents, and we all LOVED it! We are grateful for the stall holders and helpers who were in the freezing weather for very many hours. As we went back to our homes to warm up and put our feet up, we then saw the magical snow falling!

Transition Town Ilford would like to thank the Brisbane Road residents for their generosity in sharing their space and all the time and resources and ideas and love they brought to the venture. We think it is going to be a regular feature!
