Toss it? No way!

We run two Repair Cafes a month at the fab Lab Central on the ground floor of Redbridge Central Library in Ilford from 2pm to 3.45pm.

A customer's feedback:

"Wanted to pass on a huge thanks to Alvin and the other two men who worked alongside him to take my laminator machine apart and put it together again on Sat. I have since used it and it is working perfectly. I am delighted to have saved something from going to landfill (with the help of the Repair Cafe) and have my machine back in use.

I will see you another Saturday with some beads that have been sitting in a box for a long time waiting to be restrung! It is a brilliant service to have 🙂" Sam

Repair Cafés are free meeting places and they’re all about repairing things (together). You’ll find tools and materials to help you make any repairs you need. On clothes, furniture, electrical appliances, bicycles, crockery, appliances, toys, etcetera. You’ll also find expert volunteers, with repair skills in all kinds of fields.

Visitors bring their broken items from home. Together with the specialists they start making their repairs in the Repair Café. It’s an ongoing learning process.

If you have nothing to repair, you can enjoy a cup of tea or coffee. Or you can lend a hand with someone else’s repair job. You can also get inspired at the reading table – by leafing through books on repairs and DIY.

There are over 2,500 Repair Cafés worldwide.

If you are interested, get in touch. We are always looking for more volunteers with repair skills or who want to help out in admin ways.
