Repair Cafe

Next Repair Cafe: 2nd July

There won't be a Repair Cafe in June but we'll be back in full swing in July.

Toss it? No way!

We are now in the swing of two Repair Cafes a month at the fab Lab Central on the ground floor of Redbridge Central Library in Ilford from 2pm to 3.45pm. We are holding a Repair Demo each time at 2.45pm.

See the video of our first Repair Cafe in 2022 featuring 80 year old Alvin who wants to leave a legacy.

We have added clothes and broken glass and china to our repairs offering.

We are also having informal conversations on community energy and how to save on fuel as part of our efforts to help you be more energy efficient.

Our 3 repairers Hamant, Dilip and Michael tried their skills on 10 broken items.  Four items were repaired, two can be sorted with an easy spare part, and others are still under review.  We were pleased with this because the 20+ people who came along or chatted with us were themselves concerned about landfill and had broken items.

We loved the vibe of the visitors and conversations.

Lab Central is a funky community space and we are indebted to Maria Reguera, Developmental Librarian, and Vision for their partnership in this new endeavour.

Next Repair Cafes are: 2nd, 16th and 30th July.

No Repair Cafe in June. We will be back on 2nd July.

Big Green Week

We launched a Repair Cafe in Big Green Week on Saturday 18th September 2021.

What a success!

Transition Ilford and residents run a community Eco-friendly Community Market and closed part of the street where Hamant lives and the Repair Café launch was part of this.  Hamant and his friend Dilip love repairing things and used to do it at the Ilford Pop Up Green market at the monthly Recycles Ilford bike sales. Now we've linked up with Repair Cafe.

What a glorious sunny day it was!

The team managed to repair electrical and non electrical gadgets. From toasters to sewing machines, the turnout was great and teh repairs kept coming.

We hope to run Repair Cafes monthly but will just see how our first event goes before future plans.
